HE bAY, BuAlne»» M'd*FRIDAY, AUGUST 2G, 1904. ——Circuit Court Proceedings.Tbe first work of the Circuit Court came to a close with the trial of the state against Jeff Marvell charged with the killing of Newt Ford, near Saltillo, in October last. It will be recalled that Ford was shot from ambush while driving along a country road near his home. On account of a preyious difficulty suspicion painted to Har-vell as the guilty party. As there! were no eye witnesses, the state had to depend entirely on oircum-stanoial evidence, the theory of the'state being ably brought out by lion. Zach Ladnrum of Lowndes, District Attorney, assisted by Anderson and Long. Guy Mitchell appeared for the defense and ably coinbatted every inch of ground.His speech was able and eloquent and the failure of tbe jury lo agree was net a surprise. This noted case will now go over until the February term.
