The mill would have begun work last Mon day, but a piece of the new machinery was broken in transportation and had to be repaired. Mr. Sim Cooper left yesterday for New York city to buy goods for Cole Bros. He expects to be gone three or four weeks and will personally select a mam moth fall and winter stock for his firm. Mr. Cooper is an experienced buyer and knows where to find the bargains. Sam Isbell of Pankey was here yester day with cotton from north Grimes county. Mrs. E. F. Forrister, representing the Houston Ice Brewing company, has been there the past few days shipping out “empties.” Mr. Forister says the business of the Bryan agency is in a flourishing condition owing to the hust ling qualities of Mr. Chas. Vesmirovsky. The national aid lodge of Bryan held a regular meeting Wednesday night and now shows an enrolment of over sixty members. The next meeting of the lodge will be held on Wednesday the 1st of September, and thereafter the meetings will be held on the first and third Sundays. Burt Norwood returned yesterday from New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia and St. Louis and says he bought a $20, 000 stock of fall and winter goods and got them shipped at the 2 cent height rate. He is now ready to have his friends and the public call and see him. Burt got enough of the great Atlantic on the way up and returned by rail. Burt says he came back through Arkan sas and found the Little Rock and Nash ville papers had copied the Eagle’s ac count of the steamship fire, and his friends carried him high about it. John . Cherry, a white man, who has been camping in the Brazos bottom near here, was as saulted by two negroes and considerably bruised up. K. KK. Dangerfield and son, Allen, were arrested and placed under bond to answer a charge of assault. The Hearne correspondent of the Gal veston News, in writing up the Robert son county Gun Club shoot at Hearne Thursday gives the names of those who made high averages during the day and pure Sheriff T.C. The negro killed on the railroad below College and whose death was mentioned in the Eagle yesterday morning, was identified as Lienry Tonsel of Navasota. He had been here on a visit to a rela tive and was on the way home on a freight train when his death occurred. The body was terribly mangled, as stat ed yesterday, and scattered along the track. His hat was brought in by Con stable ©. L. Baker and identified by the party he came to visit.
