1 From the San Francisco Chronicle.For bitterness and promiscuous meanness, the waters of Mono Lake , surpass those of the Dead Sea. They contain so much alkali that on a ! windy day the lake is a regular tuh ol soap suds, The writer has seen;; a wall of lather five feet high along ! the whole of that shore against which I the waves were beating. Occasion- ■ ally the wind would take up a bunch of this lather as big as a bushel basket and carry it. several hundred teet inlands So buoyant are the waters; oi the lake that quite a party of men ; may navigate them on a raft made 1 of four or five dry cotton wood poles. ;
