Beecher man killed in crashA Beecher area man was killed Saturday when he apparently drove through a stop sign and was struck by another motorist at Indiana road and Stoney Island avenue, east of BeecherPaul Krol, 66, was pronounced dead at St. James Hospital medical center, Chicago Heights, at about 6:18 p.m. Saturday. There were no passengers in Krol’s 1981 Dodge Aries.The driver of the other vehicle. Lewis Newbury, 26, of Beecher, sustained no injuries, according to Will county sheriff's deputies.Newbury told deputies that as he approached the intersection on Indiana, he saw Krol's southbound vehicle also approaching the intersection on Stoney Island Newbury said he began to brake because it appeared to him that the other car was going too fast to stop at the intersection.The intersection has stop signs for northbound and southbound traffic on Stoney Island.When Krol's Dodge entered the intersection, Newbury told deputies he attempted to avoid hitting the vehicle. But Newbury’s 1976 Impala collided with Krol’s vehicle.Both vehicles came to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection, with Krol's car rolling over on its roof.Krol was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries suffered in the accident, according to deputies’ reports.No tickets were issued by Will county deputies
