HOLLINSOfficials of the local branch NAACP were heartened in their fight for removal of discriminatory signs in public places and the discontinuance of other discriminatory acts here in the city by letters from readers appearing in the local paper. One letter in particular had a tie-in with the Negro troops fighting in Korea which was very timely indeed. The letter made specific reference to the letter submitted by the Branch to the City Council. Such letters are greatly appreciated by pie organization. Next meeting will be held Friday, Sept. 1, at 8 p.m., Carver School.In its regular meeting at Lizzie’s Place Tuesday night, the Yuma ' County Voters’ League elected officers to serve until it’s annual election the third Tuesday in December. Those elected were: James T. Hollin, President; William Dees, Secretary; Albert Reed, Treasurer; James Roberson, Sergeant-at-Arms. Other officers will be elected as more members come into the organization. A committee, Tom Haywood chairman and Lucille Coleman, Bill Dees and John Earl Edwards, were appointed to send questionnaire form letters to the various candidates running for public office and compile their report of these questionnaires so the organization might be able to endorse a list of candidates for the coming primaries.The League will meet Tuesday, August 29, at 8 p.m. at Lizzie's Place to receive the report of the committee and to endorse such candidates as are selected. Everyone is urged to attend this meeting. Know how to vote intelligently!
