Wapello, In, Aug. 25.—Baird Brothers, regular feeders of New port, Iowa, topped the Chicago market on August 17, with heavy steers when they sold a load of branded Herefords at $10.95 per hun dred weight. There were eighteen head in the lot, which averaged 1407 pounds. The herefords sold to a buyer for shipment east, and were very fancy. An added distinction goes with the sale as it sets a new top price for the year and back several months into last year. The highest recent sale of any heavy steers at Chicago was a dime loss which was paid the day before. The load brought a gross return of $154.06 per head and yielded a very satisfactory return to the feeder.
