fTEMPERANCE MEETING AT CASCADE,-In accordance with previous, notice, the. citizens of Cascade ancl vicinity, met at j the school house in that village on Fnda; the 4th inst., for the purpose of taking into* consideration the proper course to be pursued by the friends b?~temperance. at the'conning- election, harder to procure the' election of a representative in that Assent-' . b!y District to the next Legislature, favora-* hie to the enactment of a law similar to* that known as the Maine Liquor Law.”On motion of Orin Rogers, JAMES-PRESTON was chosen Chairman, and* HORACE RUBLEE Secretary/The meeting was then addressed by farh* ous gentlemen, and it was tinanimoutlv a-~ *rgreed that the only course which temperance men could consistently pursue, to rid-the State from the evils of whiskey drink-' ing, was to strike at the foundation of the’ e\il, and remove the cause of temptation.'—-The adoption of the Maine- LiqfSOr Law” appeared to be the surest manner of effect--ing this. A large proportion of our taxesre.-idled from crime and pmiporlsm, caused' 1)V the liquor traffic, and from the election,, bv the magical influence of whiskey, of in-efiieient aud improper men as legislator.— • The -ober and move respectable portion off community had iiiihertobeen guiltvofneg-licence in attending' primarv meetings and elections. As a consequence offce-seekera-and their tools had always exeited a con-trolling inilueucc at the polls. The prohibitory liquor biil, would bo the most important measure before the next Lexislature—■ rtnd the selection of a represent]'tive friendly thereto, was therefore paramount to any political preferences. It was the duly of temperance men to use their utmost endeavors to secure the nomination of a temperance man in the paity to which they belonged but, failing in tlik it was unanimously a-j greed, that should such a man benomma-l(j ted bv the oppo-ing party, lie should receive their votes irrespective of parly prejudice*..On motion of'Goo. S.
