Most of those Women’s Lib gals aren't clowning around, but a growing number of them are obviously anxious to do just that. Since the inception of Ring ling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Circus’ College of Clowns five years ago, the female appli cants have increased in num ber year by year, with two of the tender gender, Peggy Wil liams and Maudie Flippen, breaking the heretofore all-male Clown Alley barrier in 1971. Another pair of fledgling fe male minsters, Sandra Hayes and Barbara Nadel, joined their sisters at the beginning of the ‘72 season, and so far, of 289 applications received by the Clown College since January 15, 135 are from females. Since classes don’t begin un til late September, many more girls are expected to seek en try. The upcoming fifth annual Session of the College of Com edy Knowledge will accept 40 “freshmen.”
