Hornets ScrimmageConnally High TodayThe Caldwell Hornet football team travel to Waco today, Thursday, August 24, for their first pre-season scrimmage. The scrimmage will be with Connally High School, and will begin at 5:00 p.m.Connally a member of District 12-AA returns six offensive and seven defensive starters from last year’s squad. They also have two of the league’s best in fullback-I.B Robert Hill and guard Jimmy Harris. Connally is quarterbacked by Pat Williams, and are led offensively by 200 pound halfback Doug Walker. In the line they are led by Harris, end George Kil-go and guard Bobby Vicha.Hornet Coach Morris Stone said that they are planning to carry 30 Hornets to the scrimmage. He also said they are looking forwa d to a fine scrimmage with the Conna'ly team.“The boys are working real good in their groups and in group work. They show lots of desire and determination. 1 havebeen real pleased in the individual effort of the boys and also in the leadership of the older boys,” Coach Stone said. He also said that there are still several candidates for starting positions and also for the varsity squad.The Hornets boosting the most experience they have had in many seasons will probably have a letterman at every position. Many positions have more than oik1 letterman fighting for a starting spot. The Hornet offensive unit as released by the Coaches this week stacks up two deep at each position and some positions are three deep.They are as follows:Left end, Elton Davis, 2VL, Kenneth Urbanovsky and Floyd Kostelka; left tackle, Bobby Pi-wonka, 2VL, George Zavodny, 1VL, and John Green; left guard, Amelio Mendez, 2VL anti Garland Flippen B; center, Mike Balcar, 1VL and Allan Willis, B; right guard, Mike Worthington, 2VL and Eddie Ellis; righttackle, Bruce Cowen, 2VL, Gregory Kocurek, B and Edward Priest; right end, Bill Broad-dus, 2VL anti Andrew Weichert; quarterback, Dick Bowers, 2VL and Lee Easter, 2VL; left halfback, Steven Kyles, 2VL and Paul Skrabanek, B; right halfback, Allen Garbs, B, Ronnie Smith, 1VL, and Pete Altimore, 2VL, and fullback, Robert Kocurek, 1VL and Charles Rosas, B.Defensive the Hornets will use a five and six man line. In the five man line Bill Broaddus and Elton Davis will be at ends, Bruce Cowen and John Green at 1 tackles and Gregory Kocurek at middle guard. At linebackers will be Mike Worthington and Bobby Piwonka with Ronnie Smith and Robert Kocurek as the corner backs. Paul Skrabanek and Steven Kyles will be the halfbacks. In a six man line Smith and Davis will be at (ml, Broaddus and Green at tackles, and Cowen and Ko-i curek at guards. Linebackersrestsi all 5000 of us are at YOUR service — personally!
