10 YEARS AGO Aug. 24 1956 Bevo VI, the appropriately spotted orange and white University of Texas mascot steer, is about ready for the traditional opening of the Longhorn football season next month. The sixth Bevo was picked from the Long horn herd at Fort Griffin State Park, es tablished in the late 1930's from the few re maining herds of the old trail driving ani mals, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert L. Stringer sailed from San Francisco Aug. 18 aboard Matson Lines luxury liner SS Lurline for Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. A. D. Tennyson of Wichita Falls has been a guest at Bishop's Lodge, ranch resort near Santa Fe. At conclusion of the games Mrs. Bill Hood was awarded the high score prize and Miss Elizabeth Huff received the door prize. 50 YEARS AGO Aug. 24, 1916 When the new Union Station in Dallas for steam roads and the Dallas Union Interuban is opened to the public, a total of 274 steam and electric passenger trains will arrive and depart from the new depot every 2 hours. The necessity for more room has made imperative improvements at Mack Taylor’s drug store, which are now under way. A gallery is being constructed which will be converted into a parlor for the display of Victrolas. It may be stated at this time, that the Mack Taylor agency for this instrument has shown the greatest volume of business in the state. Misses Genevieve Carver and Helen Stone returned from Fort Worth where they have been attending the Honor Guard encamp ment.
