Guard AnnouncesNew RestrictionsRestrictions in the enlistment of National Guardsmen were revealed by the Adjutant General of Texas in a letter to Battery B, Second Howitzer Battalion, 131st Artillery, 49th Armored Division and other national guard units in the state.Battery B has its headquarters in Jacksboro, and the Firing Battery portion is in Olncy.The announcement stated that all Ready Reserve obligations and enlistments of National Guardsmen expiring after October 1, 1961 and before June 30, 1962 will be extended one year. The order will affect many ready reservists in this area, as well as National Guardsmen.The new order stated that young men who have reached their 20th birthday will not be enlisted in the National Guard during the period from September 1 to December 31. Enlistment of men 20 years of age and older can be made through Thursday, August 31.However, men who have received an induction notice from their draft board are not eligible to join the National Guard or other reserve components.Men who have had prior service in the armed forces and young men between 17 and their 20th birthday may be enlisted during the fall months. But no trainees will begin their six months active training during the last four months of 1961. Young men previously scheduled to begin six months training this fall will probably begin the active tour in January, 1962, according to M/Sgt. Warren Alberts, Battery B administrator,Personnel joining in the next month that have not had prior service will probably begin their active duty tour in January.Currently, Battery B has 65 enlisted men and six officers, according to Capt. James R. Dennis, Jacksboro, unit commander. About 15 men live in each Jacks-boro, Olney and Graham. Another eight live in Seymour and the remainder of the enlisted men live in smaller towns in the area.The unit has two officers and two enlisted men that served in World War II. Several enlistedmen served in the armed forces during the Korean campaign. About half of the 65 enlisted men have had at least six months active duty and the remaining members have been in the National Guard five years or longer.All officers have served at least six months on active duty.Battery B received an overall Excellent rating at its summer camp with the 49th Armored Division at North Fort Hood in July. The unit will have its annual federal armory inspection late in September.Young men joining Battery B now will be given basic subjects in the school of a soldier until called next year for 6 months active training. High school sen iors joining at this time will not be called to 6*months active duty until after June 1, 1962.Sgt. Alberts is at the Olney armory each Tuesday to explain questions about the National Guard. He is on duty at the Jacksboro armory Monday, Wed ncsday, Thursday and Friday morning.Rites Held ForMrs. Boone, 26Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Jean Boone, 26, were held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday at Olney Southside Baptist Church, with Rev. ^E. J, Bradshaw, pastor, officiating.Mrs. Boone, the former Wilma Jean Boone of Olney, was found dead Monday morning in her residence at 1904 Robertson St. in Wichita Falls.A neighbor, Mrs. C. C. McGuire, said Mrs. Boone’s five-year-old daughter, Sheri, came over to her home Monday morning and told her that she could not awaken her mother.Mrs. McGuire investigated and found Mrs. Boone lying face down on a couch.
