New 72-foot Grandstand Is Being Built in Base Ball Park. Many Features for the Two Days, the 30th and 31st. Two big base ball games will fea ture the big celebration in Pomeroy next week on Wednesday and Thurs day, sponsored by the Edw. Voss Post, No. 86, American Legion. The first day, Wednesday, August 30th, at 3 p. m. the Sioux City Stock Yards will cross bats with the Mem phis Red Sox, a colored team. The second day, August 311st, at 3 o'clock p. m. the Memphis Red Sox will play the Chicago All Stars. these teams are both colored teams. You will have the privilege of see ing in action the three fastest semi pro teams in the country. All of these teams boast wonderful records. The Memphis Red Sox are winners of the Southern league and in the last game with Omaha (Western league) won by a score of 4 to 3. The Sioux City Stock Yards team is well-known in this part of the state and with Hack Wilson catch ing, you are sure to see a faust, snap py and hard hitting game. The Chicago All Stars are the best of Chicago’s colored boys and are under the management of Haney, one of the greatest colored pitchers. All three of the teams are entered in the Council Bluffs tournament the day after they play here, and will have the best line-up of the year here. New 72-Foot Grand Stand A new 72-foot grandstand is be ing erected in the Pomeroy baseball park at the present time, and it will be ready for use next week. This new grandstand is made possible by the Legion boys, with the coopera tion of businessmen and base ball fans about town. This will make a fine improvement, and with the im proving of the base ball diamond Pomeroy can boast of one of the best base ball parks in this section Gowrie Drum and Bugle Corps The Gowrie Drum and Bugle Corps will be here the first day, Aug ust 30th, and will make two appear ances, the first at 5 p. m. and the second at 9 p. m. in the evening. The Gowrie Corps is one of the best in the state, having won the state championship in 1930. Many Other Attractons. Among the many other attrac tions will be two concerts each day by the Pomeroy Concert Band. The afternoon concerts will be from 1:15 to 2:30 p. m. and the evening con certs from 7:30 to 8:45. The Rondo Theatre will run a continuous show from 11 a. m. to 11 p. m. each day, with the feature picture, “College Humor,” as the attraction. There will be rides, concessions and stands of all kinds for amuse ment. A big dance is planned for each evening with music by a good dance band. At 10:30 p. m. on August 31st, the last day of the celebration, there will be a distribution of free prizes. There are a number of fine gifts to be distributed. The American Legion and the town of Pomeroy invites you to be here both days and enjoy the various features. Make your plans now to be in Pomeroy on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
