But it forgot to mention the name of the band. It was the Richmond Boys' Brass Band.Just 12 months old. the annual meeting of the band committee was held this week. Interesting facts in connection with the growth and development of the band were referred to in the report of the secretary (Mr. W. Hockey). There is now a membership of 60 boys, with ages ranging from 8 to 19 years. None of them had previous band experience, but under Mr. J. Dyamond, the hon. conductor. they made such good progress that after a few months they gave public performances. Since their initial appearance, at the carnival for blind soldiers, they have appeared at nearly every public gathering in Richmond, giving altogether 14 patriotic and 11 other performances. The revenue for the 12 months ending July 31 was £200 8/5, and the expenditure £181 (mostly spent on music and the purchase of the larger instruments). There 13 an arrangement whereby each boy must sign on for five years’ service with the band, and. in return, receives free Instruction in band music.A special and hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Mr. Dyamond for his untiring energies in the position of instructor. The managing committee is formed of the boys’ parents, and several of the fathers paid tribute to the great value of the work performed by Mr. Dyamond. He deserves the thanks of the whole city.” declared one of them. The progress made by the boys is a fitting crown for him to wear. The committee also passed a vote of thanks to the Richmond Football Club for the support it had given the band during the season. The election of office-bearers resulted:—President. Mr. W. Taylor.
