It is said to be moving northwestward.The Deutschland has arrived in a German port with her valuable cargo and has thus scored another triumph over the greyhounds of the ocean.A 45-foot whale was found 011 Galveston island just after the storm. Some negro fishermen discovered the monster, towed him in and put him on exhibition.Unless we get a good rain in a few days the cotton crop is going to be cut short as young cotton, will not make without a rain, and the old plant is about ■ made.The tropical storm struck the army camps in the vicinity of - Brownsville and the . boys had to abandon the tents and seek shelter, in houses near by. The damage to property was considerable, but so far as learned no lives were lost.The . storm Lock fifteen lives.. nine of them occurring on one boat,-the Pilot Boy. So far as reported only three lives were lost on land. The King ranch with a population of about 500 Mexicans, has not yet been heard from, and it was right in the path of the storm.In the big railroad strike negotiations there seems to be a hitch because the railroad managers will not give in and the employes will not give in, and the president cannot bring them together. So, there may be a rupture after all.Louis Blalock of Dallas had a party of Methodist preachers out fishing at Corpus and it was feared that they were lost, but they..are safe. Must have been some Baptists in the party. Railroad Commissioner Allison Mayfield and a party have also arrived safe at Roekport since the storm.Next Saturday we will have another election. This time to decide who will be the next United States Senator. Too many elections too close together. What we want is a sane election law that plain, ordinary every day people can understand, without calling in a Philadelphia lawyer.Chicago, August 21.—H. F.
