McDermott's last evening was certainly the par excellence of all efforts of t-1 e ladies who are tHiggling with the purpose iu view of purchasing handsome organ for the church, The beautiful grounds of Mr. McDermott, corner of Third avenue andBridge streets, were crowded all evening with a brilliant gathering—a- representation of all the churches—those who have from time to time encouraged the society with their presence, and they have never failed to enjoy them selves on these, occasions. The lawn was dotted with fragrant flowers and blooming plants, The large and handsome residence, with richly furnished apartments,were brilliantly illuminated while the perfume of fragrant flowi-rs pervaded the rooms.Mr. and Mrs, McDermott were profuse in their hospitality, and,assisted by Mrs. I'h McDonough, president of the society, and other officers, looked well 10 1he i.mtertaininentuf guests. A grand nipper was served on the lawn—which was taken possession of by the hundreds of guests, old and young—with delicious ice cream from the wed-known “Palace of Sweets,“ The absence of! Father Kelly was noticeable and much regretted. He is much beloval by his congregation and they hope that his proposed trip may eubn'iiate in bin re--toration to health.A neat sum was realized by the ladies of the Choral Aid, and those piesent were fully repaid for the small out lay of expanse, but which was so greatly relished by the society, Miss Katie McDonough played several beautiful piano selections, and Miss Bertha-Hogan sweetly suing “Iu old Madrid,” both being heartily encored. Miss Anna Mdntyro also contributed to the entertainment of the many guests with .several songs well rendered, and which were so greatly appreciated.
