The indention is by Mr. Matthias Day, of Mansfield, Ohio, and bids fair to supplant gas in the matter of lighting our houses, workshops, and streets. The apparatus required for its use no more than an ordinary galvanic bat- j P* tery for generating the flow of the electric fluid, and wires, instead of pipes, for its com!notion to any point desired. At that point the line of the current is broken by the Interposition of carbon, and light is immediately evolved. It is said that the illuminating power may be had equal to gas at much less expense both in material and fixtures. We hope it may prove a perfect success in this par ticnlar, for we are advocates of all that tends to cheapen the necessaries of life and light is one of them.By this Invention, if successful, persons living on farms and in country places, where gas is not, can have their own apparatus tor illumination at a very small oost, and of such simplicity of arrangement as to render it perfectly practicable in any family. Of course there is no smell like that of gas in this electric light, and no danger of a blow up. The inventor is a gentleman of good standing and of high repute, not given to humbug in any sense of the word.
