ree8!8r-O-.8{6Spirit Photograpis©hAs spirit photographs have given rise to much thought and speculation, though generally discredited, a weal* thy philanthropist of Orawdfordsville proposes to provo to the world thatspirit photography is a reality. Who will come forward and accept his proposition :To the Editor of the Sentinel :Will you please give this article an insertion in your widely circulated and valuable paper* and thereby* serve the cause of truth?Having been very much annoyed for some time by artists in diffeient parts of the country making imitations of spirit pictures and then offoring to bet from one to five thousand dollars that they can detect the trick and explain how it is doue. In order to forever settle this controversy, and to provo whether they mean what they say, I submit the following propositions to any and all photograph ar-f j lists and men of science, and also to the Photograph Association of the United States.I will deposit in the hands ofa committee or a bank from one to five thousand dollars for the bsuefit of the widows and orphans of our city, they putting up a like amount, and if they ueteet any trick or humbug, they willbo entitled to the money for the above purpose by the committee chosen,I will, in addition, deposit in the hands of a committee one hundred dollars to pay the expenses of any artist they may select, to be paid W he is successful in detecting any trick.The following ruiea shall govern the investigation :The icsts shall bo made at Nos 94 and 96 East Washington street, Indiana.The artist must bo selected and endorsed us a competent man, and 1 will select an artist, not a Spiritualist, to follow the investigation, to see that no result is destroyedlt; Their artists shall furnish the same, and do all the work, the spirit artist will do nothing but stand with his hands upon the camera while the exposure of the plate is being made.Time will be given to make a thorough examination of everything in the room, and all persons will beexcluded except the artists and the mediums.The test shall not consume over half a day.Will the Photographic Journal, Scientific American, and the secular press in general please copy ?Fisher Hohertv.
