CHARLES HENRY BURKETT was boro and brought op by bis parents in Sumter County, S. C., 'till he bad attained near man-bood. Ho then left bis home mod engaged as a Fireman on the W. A M. Railroad, whore bj attention and cure be earned for bimeelf the confidence and esteem of the company, and was promoted to the office of engineer, the responsible do ties of wbieb he filled to the satisfaction of tbe company and the public- More than two years ago be dissolved this connection and sought ahome in the vest where he formod engagementswith the M. A M, Railroad, as engineer, and was discharging tbe duties of this new relation up to the morning of the fata! 28th of May, when he was suddenly thrown with his locomotive from the track, and so severely scalded that he died in four hours after the fa!!, leaving a devoted wife, mother, brother and sisters to moara bis sudden and unexpected djath. This melancholy death of one so full of youthful vigor and hope of success in the future, suggests sorrow and regret which none but tbo bereaved cao realise.
