Staff reports AZTEC — A light program is on tap for the Aztec Speedway Sat urday. Hobby stock, street stock, novice mini-sprint and mini-sprint races will be offered. The track opens at 6 p.m. for prac tice and hot laps. Racing begins at dusk. Preparations are under way for a dwarf car race for Labor Day weekend. Saturday's program Heat races 10 laps — 1, Charlie Felker. 2, Brett Riblett. 3, Lawayne Palmer. Riblett led for the first three laps. Novice mini sprinter 1, Daniel Martinez. 2, Larry Kesterson. 3, Asa Kesterson, Martinez led all the way. David Brackney was in second until the last lap when both Kestersons passed him in the front straightaway just before the checkered flag. Miai sprinted 1, Bobby Rivas. 2, Sid Gallagher. 3, Mark Balfour, Balfour clipped Woody Woodall in the first lap, knocking Woodall out of the race. Also Charles Van derbrock rolled forcing a restart. Hobby stock— (first heat:) 1,Russ Hammell. 2, Ralph Slavey. 3, John Thomas. Hammell led all the way. heat:)1, Steve Freeman. 2, Rick Martinez. 3, Martin Smith. Julian Garcia was in second until the third lap. Street stock—1, Joey Atencio. 2, Rick Imel. 3, Jerry May. Atencio led from green to checkered. Jerry May was in second until lap 3 when Imel passed him. Late modele— 1, Andy Hockenhull. 2, Allen Bradley. 3, Michael Dugan. Hockehull led all the way. Dugan was in second until the fifth for Sprint cars (man-winged)—1, Richard Cox. 2, Dennis Martinez. 3, L.C. Kesterson. Ber: Cheevers led for two laps. Trophy dashes Four laps Quads—1, Charlie Felker. Novice mini sprinte—1, Daniel Martinez. Larry Kesterson led the first two laps. Mini sprinte—1, Mark Balfour. Hobby stock—1, Rick Martinez. Russ Hammel rolled on the front straightaway in the second lap. Every car but Martinez was knocked out of the race so the contest was red flagged and Martinez delayed the winner. Street stock—1, Rick Imel. Late Models—1, Allen Bradley. Opriat cars—1, Richard Cox. L.C. Kesterson went out before the start of the race with gear problems. Main events Quads (10 laps) —1, Charlie Felker. 2, Steve McKinney. 3, Ron Becker. Felker led all the way. Brett Riblett rolled in turn one on the second lap. Novice mini sprints (10 laps) —1, Daniel Martinez. 2, Asa Kesterson. 3, Larry Kesterson. David Brackney left the race in the second lap. Miai sprints (13 laps}—1, Bobby Rivas. 2, Mark Balfour. 3, Sid Gallagher. 4, Dale Walls. In the seventh lap Balfour and Gallagher burned sending Balfour to the wall. Street stock (11 laps}—1, Rick Imel, 2, Terry Tenski, 3, Robert Bruyere, 4, Elmo Hickenhiemer. Joey Atencio led for the first two laps. Imel attempted to pass Atencio on the inside in the second lap. Atencio came down on him and rolled. Late models (11 laps}—1, Arlen Bradley, 2, Andy Hockenhall, 3, Bill Shrivert. On the second lap Michael Dugan hit the wall coming out of turn two. Sprint cars (12 laps}—1, Richard Cox. 2, Ben Cheevers. 3, Dennis Martinez. 4, Chuck Brackney. Martinez was in second through nine laps when Cheevers passed him. Hobby stock (18 laps}—1, Rick Martinez. 2, Martin Smith, 3, Ralph Slavey, 4, Steve Freeman. Dwayne Valdez led for two laps when Russ Hammell passed him. Valdez went out in lap three with a flat tire. Hammell led until the 11th lap. Martinez passed Hammell. Hammell finished seventh in the 18th lap with a flat. Jay Anderson left the race with a flat tire in lap nine. In lap 10 Julian Garcia rolled because of a broken tie rod.. In lap 12 Elmo Hickenheimer hit the wall in the first turn. Aug. 11 program Heat races 10 laps Novice mini sprinter 1, Daniel Martinez. 2, Larry Kesterson. 3, Asa Kesterson. David Brackney collided with the inside thre wall of the first turn during the first lap, the car landing on its side and knocking it out of the race. Asa Kesterson spun in the first turn during the restart. Larry Kesterson and Daniel Martinez crashed into him. All were able to continue. On the second restart Dantel Martinez jumped into the lead, holding it throughout the race. Hobby Stock—1, Steve Freeman. 2, Rick Martinez. 3, Martin Smith. Freeman led all the way. Dan Simkin was in second until lap six. Dwayne Valdez left the race in the eighth lap with undisclosed trouble. Street stock— 1, Joey Atencio. 2, Terry Tenski. 3, Robert Bruyere. Atencio led all the way. Bruyere was in second until lap six. Sprint cars—1, Dennis Martinez. 2, LC, Kesterson. 3, Chuck Brackney. Richard Cox led the race until lap eight when he dropped out with mechanical problems. Trophy dashes Four laps Novice mini sprinte— Daniel Martinez. Hobby stock— Julian Garcia. Steve Freeman collided with Rick Martinez in the second lap causing Martinez to drop out. Freeman was black flagged for rough driving. Street stock— Joey Atencio. Sprint cars— Dennis Martinez. Main events Novice mini sprints, 10 laps—1, Asa Kesterson. 2, Daniel Martinez. 3, Larry Kesterson. Martinez led for the first six laps. Hobby stock, 15 laps—, Ian Simkin. 2, Rick Martinez. 3, Julian Garcia. 4, Rob Good tracks. Simkin led all the way. Dwayne Valdez was in second for two laps. Steve Freeman passed him, holding second until lap eight when he de veloped engine problems. Also in lap eight, Cecilia Bruyere broke an axle. Before she could stop Julian Garcia hit her, knocking her car to the concrete pipe barrier on top of the backstretch wall. Street stocks, 12 laps— 1, Joey Atencio. 2, Terry Tenski. 3, Robert Bruyere. Sprint cars, 10 laps— 1, LC. Kesterson. 2, Richard Cox. 3, Dennis Martinez. 4, Chuck Brackney, Martinez led for one lap before spinning.
