T or ontoThe Toronto Ball Hockey Association had its best turnout in over two weeks on August 12 and as a result had two of their best games in over a month.The first game saw the Golds hand the leagueleading Reds their thirdconsecutive loss and moved themselves to within three points of first place. The most outstanding player in that game was, indeed, Bruce Burgess for the Golds. With their totaloffence adding up to five goals, Burgess was a keyfigure in every score. He bagged Golds’ 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals and assisted on the other two. LePage and Marchese were the other Gold goal getters. For the Reds it was Wayne Lawson and Charlie Cornelius who got the goals and for the thrid time in a row Doug Johnstone was unable to put the ball in the net.The final score was 5-2 for Golds who suddenly, with just four games remaining, find themselves in a three way battle to see who will go into the playoffs in first place.The second game that night saw the Greens come very close to losing to the Blues, despite a four goal cushion which they enjoyed at one point in the game.The Greens- exploded from the opening face-off and by midway through the second period weresitting on top of a 4-0 lead. Not having the reputation of being a third periodclub, the Greens stayed true to form and relaxed.It was then that Larry Crase, Dave Learn and Wayne Warr scored for the Blues. But before theycould get the equalizer time ran out.For the Greens, thescoring was split in half with Larry Lawson scoring the first two and Ken (Sunshine) Clark getting^ the latter pair.The win kept Green in a second place tie with Gold and both teams are just 3 points away from firstplace Red.Last Thursday night saw the T.B.H.A. come veryclose to defaulting two more games. In both the first and second games, players were literally recruited off the street so as to put a minimum six players on the floor. 'In the first game Greenplayed Red in a contest that was as exciting as any ever seen here at Amesbury. The checking was thorough, the hitting was fierce and the play was superb. And when the final bejl sounded, Green had held on to the one goal,scored in the first period by Larry Lawson, to gain a 1-0 victory, handing Red their fourth straight defeat, and giving Des Hennessey his second shutout thus far.For Lawson, the goal was his 24th and ties him with Doug Johnstone, the leading point getter, for most goals scored so far this season.The second game was another close, hard fought contest between the Blues and the Golds.The final score was 3-3 and left the Golds one point behind Green who,for the first time this year, have sole possession of 2nd place and are just onepoint back of first placeRed.„,-NOTE:Contrary to anannouncement made lastweek by the executive,there will be five trophies given out this year. Three of the five will go to point getters. One to the player scoring the most goals, one for most assists and the third for most total points. The other two trophies will be challenge trophies andwill be awarded one to the team finishing in first place and the other to thechampions winning theplayoffs.
