Lower row —Fred Cobeen (deceased), Joe Sheka, California, Herman Maschmeyer, Mobile, Ala.There were only ten grades in Manly high school in 1898.When two more grades were added in 1899 there were no graduating classes until 1901 when the graduating class consisted of: Ethel (Nelson) Otzen, Manly; L. T. Bosworth, Manly; JacobHuizel, Manly; George, Meldrim, California; Pearl (Rossiter) Dilla-vou, Honolulu; Rhey Bosworth, St. Paul; and Katie May, deceased. . •The protograph was taken by V. E. Peshak, then a photographer in Manly.m. *The year of 1898 was a memorable one, says Mrs. Otzen, for on February 15 the battleship Main was sunk in Havanna harbor and just a few weeks before graduation our country was * at war with Spain.*
