Doug Corrigan, Now Ferry Pilot, Is Visitor HereNot traveling In the wrong direction this time, just halted by engine trouble, Douglas (Wrong-Way) Corrigan, now with the Long Beach branch of the Ferry Command, is stopping here briefly while plane repairs are being made.Corrigan, who made headlines a few years ago on a flight to California that turned out to be a trip to Ireland, has had that Wrong-Way” hung on him ever since. With the Ferry Command for the past six months, there is no going the wrong way now, and when this native Texan takes off in one direction he gets there. As to having people still kid him about his sense of direction, Corrigan says that now he's taken off that leather jacket, people don’t recognize him anymore.Corrigan spoke of his viist to Big Spring in 1938 when service clubs honored him with a dinner and the whole town turned out to hear him make a talk. He even remembered some of the tricks that Big Spring people played on him about going on backward trips. When engine trouble developed on the trip yesterday, Corrigan, woh makes many flights over this teritory, knew the local airport was the biggest in the vicinity, so he made this a stopping point. Flying with Corrigan is Lieut. John i Whalen of Vincennes, Ind., who claimed that although this is his first trip with the Wrong-Way” flyer, so far they had kept to their course. The short, sandy haired flyer still grins his well-known grin about that trip to Ireland that was just compass trouble.”
