Unfounded rumors, which were circulated throughout the Twenty-sixth Ward to the effect that Henry Cook, the well known build er and contractor of Hendrix street, had committed suicide by shooting himself this morning, caused great annoyance to the lat ter's family. When a reporter called at Mr. Cook’s residence, at 146 Hendrix street, he learned from Mr. Cook's daughter that the house had been besieged by agitated friends and relatives who had heard the rumors as to Mr. Cook's alleged suicide, and who were greatly relieved to learn that nothing had occurred to the latter. One of Mr. Cook's acquaintances, it was said, went into a neighboring drug store and said to the proprietor that he was sorry to have heard that Mr. Cook had taken his ife. Mr. Cook just then passed by on the oppo site side of the street. When the acquaint ance’s attention was called to that fact, it is said, he looked sheepish. Mr. Cook's family are unable to tell how the rumor started and circulated with such persistency. At Mr .Cook's home it was stated that the latter was down town on business, unconscious of the fact that some considerate party had consigned him to a suicide’s fate.
