A Preliminary SktrmtahIowa FaIIb, la., Aug* 17.—A preliminary skirmish that la t® precede thegreat litigation growing out of the gigantic forgeries of C. L. Land in northern Iowa has just terminated and result* in the defeat of one of the Innocent victims of the capatalisH's kuav. ery. John Johnson of Emmet county made a loan through Lund, giving hi* farm as security. Lund sold the mor-gnge to a third party. Johnson paid Lund the money * few years later, and Lund released the same, though having no right to do so after having disposed of the paper. The third party now demands the payment of the morgagv, and it looks as though Johnson would have to pay the roorgage a second time. Johnson garnished some lire insurance money that was left the wife after Lund’s sudden exit, but the court* hold that this money is not liable. All that Johnson has to show for his $1,800 Is a release of mot gage that |* no good. Other cases equally ** bad are anticipated.
