than it was m 1848/Yale College Commencemput.The One Hundred and Fiftieth Commencement of Yale College took place at New Haven on Wednesday last. The proceedings commenced on Tuesday evening, with a discourse by the Rev. B. L. Swan, of Litchfield, Ct., in the Chapel of the Condo ad Clerum. On Wednesday morning the Aluuini met to hear obituary notices of graduates who have died during the past year, including the late Hon. J. C. Calhoun and Charles Ohauncey, Esq., of Burlington, in that State. Two of the oldest graduates of the institution were present —Hon. Noyes Darling and Jonathan Malt by A discourse was afterward delivered by President Woolsey, of the University. In the afternoon the Alumni assembled in a spacious tent, erected on the College grounds, where they partook of a collation, and enjoyed an intellectual treat of a high character, in the addresses made on the occasion. The gem of the afternoon was a poem by Rev. John Picr-pont, of Massachusetts, entitled Progress,” which is described a.* one of the happiest efforts of this gifted poet. * 1!'In the eventng, the Phi Beta Kappa Society held its Anniversary.
