Historical Developement.There is one bit of history that has its connection Jo Rake in such u way -tbaf.it' cannot be left out .whenever tbe the history of the town Is rehearsed. This' is the history of; the baud and band music.When the town was possi-u year old, at anv rate not over years, a number of young men got together and started to form a band Gus Thaves was connected with it when he was printer in the Rake Register prin-tefy, and then when the change catoe in the lumber yard and F. Weyerhaeuser Co. purchased all the lumber interests here, which brot Or O. Grevios into onr town Then there also came a change inthe drugstore business when Larsoni : .Johnson bot out the T. S.Wault;t Co, which brot Otto .Johnson into our uiidst almost a-bout the same time as the lumber interests. Otto Johnson and C O. Grevlob were connoted with the Rake band as long as they lived in Rake.A. K. Marsaa and T. A. Rake, L. O. Hondstad, the Jorgenson’s and others were connected* with the band in early date*. At one time when Mr. Henry Klose of Albert Lea was instructor the Rake Rand pushed right out to the front and was culled upon to play the music in many places, at celebrations and fairs. Sometimes this lull; would be caused because that, some one of tbe band men here would move away. Then so me other band players would move in and set new energy into motion.When Otto Johnson left this ■town it took away a good leader ,and cornpt player. C. O Grev-los leaving took away a good bari-ton player. Rut stNI, the hand lives Of late years P. J, Chris, tenson and family, have been i-dentified with tbe band in good numbers, with P. J. as leader. The interest that they have taken in the band h«« held it up to a very, high standard. At one tin e P. J. Christenson and four of his children were members of the hand, At this writing the band is in tbe program for one day at tbe Winnebago County Fair at forest City, Rept. 9th. so that it Can be figured that the Rake band is still helping to make history in this community.
