The following is taken from a Los Angeles paper. Mr. Winans was well known here he was a brother-in-law of the late W. S. Wright of East High land. ~ Ephraim H. Winans, 87 years old, one of the pioneer business men of Los Angeles, died early yesterday morn ing at his residence, No. 4425 Marmion Way. Mr. Winans was prominent in the early affairs of the city, and at one time was the owner of the prop erty where the Hall of Records now stands. He came here thirty-three years ago from Iowa, where he was su perintendent of the Iowa Reform School and president of Simpson Col lege at Indianola. Mr. Winans identified himself with the development of this city and Re dondo Beach and one time owned about half of the site of the beach town. He was a member of the Chamber of Com merce and took much interest in civic affairs, though he retired from busi ness about seven years ago. Since that time his daughter, Miss Martha Winans, has managed his extensive in terests. He leaves, besides Miss Winans, who lived with him, Mrs. 8. A. W. Car ver, a daughter, wife of the head of the Crescent Creamery Co., Joy A Winans, a son, of No. 4671 Pasadena Ave., and Mrs. L. W. Klene, a daugh ter, of Elgin, Arizona. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock from the chapel of the Highland Park Un dertaking Co., two former Iowa min isters, W. G. Wilson and B. C. Cory, officiating. On June 23, 1858 Mr. Winans gradu ated from Iowa Wesleyan and on the same day was united in marriage to Margaret Wright, sister of the late W. S. Wright.
