WILL PAY DIRECTOR PRINCELY SALARYLOS ANGELES, Aug, 19.—A contract was signed by the Metro corporation representatives In Los Angeles recently 'whereby the largest salary on. record will be paid to a motion picture director.The contract is In favor of W, Christy Cabanne, formerly of the Fine Arts studio, and calls for the payment to Mr. Cabann© of ?DOO a week for fifty-two weeks.Also it is announced that Mr. Cabanne has been employed to direct a $500,000 serial for Metro which will require several months to Etagc.So far the title or the nature of the big eefial has not been divulged by the Metro representatives, but It is aald that work will start Immediately.Mr. Cabanne will direct Francis X Bushman and Beverly Bayno and will leave immediately for New York; where the serial will be filmed. It Is. probable that as booh as the Bushman* Bayne serial Is completed, the Quality-Metro company wilt be brought to Los Angeles, where future pictures will be mado.Besides being the highest paid director of motion pictures in the world, Mr. Cabanne is now one of the highest salaried men in pictures. Outside of a few such stars as Chaplin, Bushman, Kerrigan and perhaps a half o2en others, his little old $46,800 a year makes the average wage look like cigarette money.Mr. Cabanne has won considerable J?1?#?..?® a director since Joining: the Griffith company and the step upward Is seen by his friends os recognition of his genius.
