Krassin, county treasurer of Waseca county, died a few days ago aged 38 years. We believe he was a bachelor and he was very popular in his county and among others outside acquainted with him. He was a gallant soldier In the late war and hosts of friends mourn his death. The carrying capacity of a railroad car is ten tons. Of the various products i I will accommodate the following quantities: Wheat, 540 bushels; corn, 400 bushels; pota toes, 430 bushels; apples, 370 bushels; oats, 600 bushel; lumber, 6,000 feet;, butter, 20,000 pounds; flour, 90 barrels; whisky, 60 barrels; wood, 6 cords; cattle, 18 to 20 head; hogs, 50 to 60 head; sheep, 80 to 100 head. Waseca Radical State Treasurer Bobleter says during the past year there has been paid out by the State $52,000 bounty on wolf scalps. We believe this a useless expendi ture, as the wolves appear to be fully as num erous as ever. Every wolf that is killed now would be killed if there were no bounty paids. Farmers kill most of the wolves, and they would kill all they can anyway, even if not paid for doing so. Sauk Centre Avalanche: Prof. Henry John son bid good bye to his host of Sauk Centre friends on Monday last, and departed for his new field of labor—Rushford. Before bring ing up at his final destination he will visit in St. Paul, Minneapolis and Albert Lea, and also—well Henry is one of our most estimable young men, and the school faculty of Rush ford are to be congratulated upon securing his services for the coming year. Northfield News: In common with most newspaper people The News begs to unite in the suggestion to persons sending in notices of, meetings, etc., that their items would be much more acceptable if properly prepared for the press. (1) Don’t write them on scraps of paper. (2) Don’t abbreviate names or words. (3) Write plainly, especially names- (4) Don’t use Interlineations, they frequently confuse the compositor and lead to errors. (5) Write only on one side of the paper. By observing these suggestions, vexa tious errors are in many instances avoided. Mankato Free Tress: The arrange ments for the session of the Grand Lodge, Keights of Pythias, to convene in the city of Duluth, September next, will offer the fol lowing prizes to batallions and divisions for competive drill, viz: Batallion, $75.
