Hcrsc*thief War in Jasper*One of our Josper county corregpondenta writes us as follows, under date of Rensellacr, August 16th:—“A horso Buppoaed to have been stolen from the neighborhood of Fort Wayne or Logansport, has lately been captured In our county, near Beaver Lake. A Mr* Cliflon, while hunting a horsc-thief in that region, stopped at a supposed harbor for thieves, (1 will not yet name the man,) when a very sus-Ciciotja fellow rode up and dismounted* As e entered the house Clifton presented a gun and demanded his surrender, but the fellow jerked the gun from him and ran for life.— Clifton pursued with a revolver, fired one barrel and snapped a second, when the fellow turned upon him (supposing no doubt that his pistol was empty) when Clifton fired the third time—which load took effect in his right breast—when the fellow mode his escape.Clifton secured the hor6e, which is an iron or dapple grey—the hoofs on the right side marked as if tbo horse had been corked some time since—a slight scar as if by a snag on the right stifle—asjnip on the nose about one inch in width and considerably narrower between the nose and eyes. It is supposed from the fact that the horse inclines to the middle of the rood, that he has worked in shafts, though he is not marked with harness. Supposed to be five years old and 16 hands high—is rather a fine horse. If you judge the matter of sufficient importance, publish and request the Furl Wayne and Logansport papers to copy. The people are determined to bicak up this nest, and a number are now starting for the scene of action.” D.
