LINN COUNTY’S ONLY DROUND THE TOWN.A miniature model of General John J. Pershing's former home in Laclede, has been constructed by local men and is on display at the home of Charles Burnett, on West North Street. The model is an exact replica of the war general's former home, and has been attracting much attention all week.The model ta built on a JO foot woOden square to represent the yard of the home. The main building covers a 7-foot square space. The kitchen, which extends back of the house, covers a space of about 18 inches.Plans tot the house were conducted on a painstaking scale. The dwelling at Laclede was carefully measured in number of feet and the replica was scaled down to ^ of an inch for each foot of the original.Every door, window, flue and even rock foundation, was faithfully reproduced. £ven the. red and blue co}* ored panes on the front windows and the panels on the front door are very, vivid in producing memories to those persons who have viewed the home in Laclede. ‘ , - •White pirie was used in the construction of the model, being cut from siding of 1 Vi inches wide. The shingles are of the Original rubberoid. The interior is illuminated by electricity.B. J. Patrick drew up the plans.' Charles Burnett and Ed Brammer each worked a week' on the construction of same. Bruce Cunard painted the model, and Mrs. Burnett did the window decorating, both curtains and shades.The model will be taken to the American Legion state convention at Columbia, September 1, 2 and 3. and to the national American Legion convention in St. Louis. September 23. 24. 25 and 26. The local Legion officials plan to transport the model on a truck to the two convention cities. The model will also be on display in the east park next Sunday, during the Immaculate Conception Church picnic, according to present plans.It is estimated that thousands of people will view‘the model while it is on display in Columbia and St. Louis. This should give Linn County a-fair share of publicity.J. L.
