FORGED A CHECK.A Farm Hand Wants Quick Cash. Forges Check for $146 on James B. Hunter.Qeorge Fossil, for eleven days a farm hand employed by Jamee B. Hunter, is in the county jail where he will have plenty of time to study penmanship and arrive possibly at the conclusion that it dors not pay to write other peoples names on checks.Fossil came to the farm of James B. Hunter eleven days ago and on Sunday last while the family were away he entered the house and obtaining a check book of Mr. Hunter’s proceeded to write out a check for himself in the sum of 1146, which he made payable to the name of Thomas Rogers, an old employe of Mr. Hunter. He of course forged the name of Mr. Hunter to tne check and also that of Rogers, impersonating the latter.This morning Fossil came to town and went to the Fair and purchased a pair of shoes and hat, tendering the check of $146 to Mr. Moyer in payment for same. The amount of the check aroused the suspicions of Mr. Moyer and he went to the telephone and called up Mr. Hunter to see whether the check was genuine. While Mr. Moyer and Hunter were talking the man overbearing the conversation skipped out of the store. The snenff’s office was notified of the attempt to pass the check and Wes Smith was detailed to look for the man. Just as be was about to start out in search of Fossil the latter walked right into Smith’s arms, oear Scovill’s stabbs.
