He and his partner, Matt Owens, (who was killed by the train) started for Kentucky, and laid down on the track for a rest, but went to sleep, Owens was between the rails, while he was lying on the tie? outside the rails.The engineer »aid they were so close together that it looked like one man was on the track. A farmer who was near by breaking up wheat land did not know the negroes were there until the train struck them. The train ran its entire length over them.
