Card of Thauks.Baker City, August 17, 1874, Editor Democrat:—Please allow me the i*$e of your valuable paper to return sincere thanks to the generous persons who assisted mo in paying a part of the debts against the Church of Baker City, The following gentlemen at Sparta, gave as follows:—John Bairacb, SI; Joseph Fisher $10; Joseph Ken-nald $5; J.- B. Richards $5; E P. Cranston $5. At the Toll Gate—John Dooley $10; John Cruck $5; Rye Valley—John Kbndre$5; Max Ketere $5, Claud Seguin SI, James Odell $2 50, J. C. Powers $2 50, Walter Fernald $2 50; Clarksville—Geo. W. Henry $5. 0. S. Buckland $5, J. J. Dooley $5, Henry Reiser 92, Simon Gauthier $2, Chas. Glasgow $5, Frank Kawati $5; Malheur City—Charles Crowley $5, Mr. Mahow $2 50; Camp Harney— Officers and Soldiers $60; Fort Sumpter—Charles Rimbul $10; Auburn—Pat Connor $5, H. H. Griffin $2 90. Those gifts have been applied according to the intention of the donators. Many of the above mentioned gentlemen intended to augment their liberality in behalf of the church, at a r ext visit of mine. But, since, for the education of young ladies, a first class school is needed very much in this part of the country; I ask them, as also all people, to confide mo their gifts for the purpose of erecting a suitable •chool house in Baker City. The following is a first list of subscriptions to said school: Baker City—Rev. Father P. De Roo$500 00, James W Virtue $500 00; Toll gate—John fjooley $100 00; Sparta —E. P. Cranston $100 00, I, B. Johnston $2 90, James Bruner $2 50, F. Ruggers $2 50, Wm. Robinson $2, Ah Wing $l, Yeck $0 20; Eagle Creek—K. Ferguson $15. Almost the half ol the money subscribed is collected. As I cannot call on all persons interested in a careful training of the youth, I ask those whom I could not see, to send their offerings to the undersigned, who is and will remain thankful toco-operatora of this useful institution.YTours, truly,P.
