CONTINUED FROM COVER Dylan James Laughrey, 26, to kill her husband, George Smith, whose body was found Aug. 6, 2007, on Surfside Beach. A jury convicted Laughrey of capital murder in November, and he was sentenced to life in prison without them of parole. Lorrain Smith faces the same punishment if convicted. Lorrain Smith origi nally was released in October 2007, after she posted $125,000 bond on the capital murder charge. She now is wanted on a bond for feiture warrant. Attorneys said one of Smith's daughters wired $200 to her which she collected at a store off Highway 59 in Houston. Another friend had wired her $100 but the money was not collect ed, they said. Brazoria County District Attorney Jeri Yenne said she could not comment on pend ing litigation. Yenne did say she is pursuing fail ure to appeal charges against Smith. Stickler said though his client had not been seen in almost a week, he was surprised not to see her on Monday. “Part of me felt that she would show up today,” he said. “She's going to show up some time.” The company that put up Smith’s bond amount asked for a sure ty to surrender warrant against Lorrain Smith after she did not report for a hearing last week. Police have been look ing for her since. Surety to surrender warrants are issued after a bond company with draws the bond that allows a defendant to be released pending trial. Smith’s boyfriend reported her missing to Angleton police Wednesday after the defendant didn’t return home from visiting the Veteran's Affairs hospi tal in Houston. A friend dropped her off there on Monday and Smith told one of her daughters on Tuesday that she was still in the hospital, Buchanan said. “No records show her being at the hospital,” he said. Court documents state Smith’s bond con ditions included that she wear an ankle moni tor and ask permission to leave Brazoria County. She was allowed to go to the Veterans Affairs hospital but she had to provide proof of the appoint ments. The ankle monitor Smith was wearing at the time she went miss ing did not have GPS capabilities. ay tentatively reset the trial for August 2010. The attorneys said they could not plan to have the trial whenever Smith is caught because of other trials already scheduled. Many witnesses who live out of town also have to plan their schedules around any future trial date. “Carrying it week to week or month to month will be very diffi cult to manage,” prose cutor Richard Magness said.
