The Rev. Cecil L. Taylor and his wife, Janie Taylor, have returned to the Cumberland area to resume the position as executive director and associate director respectively of the Union Rescue Mission of Western Maryland, Inc. The Mission was founded in Nov. 1963, by Rev. Taylor who served as executive director until his retirement in 1980. Mrs. Taylor then served as associate director and also was employed by GAB business service. Although the couple moved to Florida where Mrs. Taylor was employed in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices of GAB, they still thought of the Mission as “home,” they say, because they resided there for 17 years. Both credit their dedication to the Rev. Pat B. Withrow Sr., a longtime friend and partner of Billy Sunday, who served the Charleston (W.Va.) Union Mission, said to be the largest rescue mission in the world. The Taylors graduated from the Kanawha Valley Bible School there, which was established by the Mission.
