By Mrs. Warren Christianson. Only beautiful memories re main of a Hawaiian vacation, and yesterday, it was “back to work”,for Joanne Sanford em ployed in the office at Jordon, The Company She took the Taloa Tour to Hawaii with her neighbor, Mrs. Warren Chris tianson of Temescale Avenue, Norco, and enjoyed it so much she is considering a return trip next year. Highlights of the tour were landing at Honolulu before the hurricane, brushing elbows with a real live princess, and touring Pearl Harbor the first day it was opened after the storm. Being presented with this made of 300 Vanda Joaquin Orchids was no small moment, either. That was on the girls’ tour of Hawaii, the island with three names: “The Big Is land,” “The Orchid Island,” and “The Volcano Island.” The storm was more of a nuisance than a threat to the well-built structures at Waiki ki, although the hotels were sandbagging to keep the rain run-off out of their open lob bies, and the surf was lapping at the hotel terraces. A few of the waves spilled over into the beach shop level of the Reef Hotel. At least a dozen’ young Hawaiian boys were swim ming through the rough break ers like seals on the wildest day of the storm, enjoying the change from the usually ‘gentle waves of the bay. Japanese Princess The princess was’ Shigeko, eldest daughter of Japan’s Em peror, in Hawaii with her hus band Moriatsu Higashikuni, (a former prince and currently chief of a chemical research institute) for a five day, tour of Oahu, and The Big Igland with 35 ° members of the ex clusive Tuxedo Club of Tokyo. The club membership includes politicians, businessmen, writ ers and others. The one Hawaiian member of the club interested other members in visiting Hawaii to celebrate attainment of statehood. Ichiro’ Kono a leader of Japan's Liberal - Democratic Party and Tuxedo Club presi dent said, “Russians take care of their children, American men their wives, but Japanese men take good care only of themselves. This is definitely wrong....For_this_reason—and others — we organized the club.” Club members, now have a chance to take their wives out, at least once a month, to a formal dinner meeting. Mr., Kono _ said, “We're getting to be like American men — and we're happy about it.” Joanne and Honey first saw the princess at the club's black-tie dinner in the Mon arch Room’ of The Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The women wore conservative kimonos. One kimono was a beautiful pure white silk, whose ele gantly, craraMe he r corsage i owner wore a purple orchid, at her shoulder. ‘Boundless. Courtesy The last time they saw Princess Shigeko was at the Honolulu International Air port as she and her party left for Tokyo just ‘before the girls, boarded their’ plane to return to Los‘ Angeles. The princess wore western-style clothes, but many of the women in the group who had come to see her off wore colorful kimonos. It was a scene of boundless cour tesy and consideration as they bowed many times to each other. The women held fans high and flattered them grace fully as the princess and her husband turned at the top ‘of ‘their plané ramp to wave their last goodbyes and bow their last bow. — Joanne is the’ daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmet San ford of 1826 Terhescal Avenue, Nosco, and’ the granddaughter of Mrs. Emily Kenworthy of 312 West Kendall St., Corona
