Jones, son of Hiram and Julia Jones, was born in Lebanon, Ohio, May^28, 1835, and died in Galva, August 14, 1915, being 80 years, 2 months and 14 days of age.When a boy of 15 he came west with his parents and they settled at Brimfield, Illinois. He there at-1 tended the academy and acquired what was considered in that day a 1 very good education.The family moved to Galesburg | about 1857 and remained several years, when they moved back to the farm.• When the Civil War broke out Mr.L Jones heard the call of his country . and joined the ranks of the army,* enlisting as a member of the 77th | Illinois volunteers. He was soon advanced from the ranks to the officei of second lieutenant and was com-, missioned to drill the new recruits.He gave himself in valiant ser-, vice and was ever ready to endure ) any hardship or die if need be for his country. He remained as a faithful soldier until the close of the - i war, when he received an honorable I discharge. He prided himself on I his soldier record. After the war r he became a member of the G. A. R. Post 33 of Galva. He saw many of his old comrades pass out the living ranks and now but a few remain.He married Arabella Guyer of . Brimfield, May 5, 1865, and to their union seven children were bom: . Mrs. Nettie Emery died in 1890, Guyer died in 1881, and Louise in 1896. The members of the family [ now living are Paul Jones, of Po-5 mona, California; Aim on R., Ernie L and Elizabeth Jones, of Galva. The ) grandchildren are Nettie Emery, of Galva, and the four children of Paul f Jones in California.
