Representative Johnson Se cures 206 Acres for Light house on North Beach WASHINGTON, D. C., Aug. 16.— The senate last evening passed Repre sentative Albert Johnson’s bill giving government control of 206 acres in Quinsault reservation for much need ed lighthouse at Cape Elizabeth. The senate last evening passed Senator Jones’ bill providing for a standard apple box. This bill is approved by nearly all the apple growers of Wash ington state. Use of the standard box is not compulsory, however. E. B. Merritt, assistant commis sioner of Indian affairs, has written a letter to Senator Jones’ which throws light on what had appeared to be something of a local mystery. White Man Barred Some time ago the bureau of In dian affairs issued an order forbid ding L. M. Streator from running his boats on the Quinsault river, carrying passengers from the lake to the ocean. The strange part of it was that the Indians were not at the same time forbidden the privilege of ply ing their craft. In his letter to Senator Jonees Mr. Merritt says that Mr. Streator’s boats are power boats and it is feared they would disturb the spawning ground of the salmon.
