The convention yesterday was called to order by J. W. Deal, chairman of the Re publican county committee. John Charl ton was chosen temporary chairman, and John W. Alder temporary clerk. A com mittee on credentials was appointed as fol lows: B. W. Gill, Albert Allen, J. L. Jones, J. B. Smith, Ishmael Keith. A committee on permanent organization was appointed as follows: 8. Hollister, Jas. Walker, C B. Rice, C. W. Smith, Mr. Fisher. The committee on credentials reported through its chairman, naming sixty-three delegates. Various alternates were duly substituted for the delegates. Chairman Hollister, of the committee on permanent organization, reported in favor of J. L. Jones, of Kanwaka,for permanent chairmain, and Wm. M. Culbertson, of Wakarusa, as permanent secretary. The re port was accepted. The convention then adjourned until one o'clock. During the intermission a caucus of the city and Grant township delegates placed in nomination the name of J. C. Walton for the office of County Commissioner. The convention convened at one o'clock, and the secretary called the roll. George Ware, secretary of the caucus for County Commissioner, introduced a resolu tion asking that the name of J. C. Walton be placed upon the ticket to be nominated. Adopted , ‘Simpson Hollister offered a resolution expressing it as the duty of the convention to place in nomination a County Treasurer, so as to save calling another convention in case the courts should decide the office of Treasurer to be vacant. Adopted. By motion, the first officer to be nomin ated was Treasurer, and the others in the order of their naming in the call. For the office of Treasurer, Simpson Hollister nominated Oliver Barber; sec onded by E. A. Coleman, Mr. Coleman referring to Mr. Barber's long residence in the county, his business experience as head of the commissary department, and his un apotted citizenship. . T. J. Sternbergh nom inated John Charlton, seconded by Oliver Paul. On the first ballot, Mr. Barber re ceived fifty-four votes, and Mr. Charlton vight, Mr. Barber thus receiving the nom ination. The nomination was made unan imous. For County Attorney, Mr. Hollister nom inated W. W. Nevison; Mr. Grover nom inated R. J. Bergholthaus; Mr. Paul nom inated Albert Knittle; and Mr. Gill nomin ated Salmon Allen. Mr. Nevison, being called for, made a brief speech defining his position on ‘the treasury defalcation, deny ing that he was or ever had been attached to Mr. Watson’s interests. On the first bal lot, Mr. Nevison received 838 votes, Mr. Borgholthaus, 12, Mr. Knittle 10, and Mr. Alled 7, Mr. Nevison thus receiving the nomination. The nomination was made unanimous. For the office of Probate Judge, I. N. Van Hoesen nominated John Q. A. Nor ton; Mr. Lovejoy nominated A. H. Foote; and Mr. Reynolds nominated J. C. Wilson. On the first ballot Norton received 36 votes, Foote 28,and “Wilson 3, Mr. Norton thus receiving ‘the nomination... The nomine was made unanimous. For Clerk of the ‘District Court, Mr. Hughes nominated Barney D. Palmer; Mr. nominated: G. W. W. Yates, Mr. Rice nominated A.. A.B. Cavaness; and Mr. Smith nominated W.J. Patterson, making a short speech in his favor. On the first ballot Mr. Palmer received 32 votes, Mr. Yates 14, Mr. Cavaness: 11, and Mr. Patter son.5, Mr. Palmer thus receiving the nom ination. The nomination was made unan imous. For Superintendent of Public Instruc tion, Mr. Richards nominated Frank. F. Dinsmoor, who was accepted by acclama tion.
