The executive director of the| A Chicago representative of Galesburg Human Relations|the Fair Employment Practices Commission has proposed that Commission wil be in Galesburg she be given subpoena powers.to investigate alleged discrimin Mrs. Louise Wilder made the nation by an Industry here, Mrs. proposal during a commission Wilder reported. Following the session, Mrs. Wilder told raporters suhmon. The FEPC representative Mrs. Wilder and a representa tive of the business will meet, she said, powers would allow her to ef fectively investigate allegations by factories, businesses and real estate brokers. Mrs. Wilder said it was diffi cult to prove discrimination without being able to inspect a company's records. One rea son she does not discuss alleged discrimination cases, she said, is because she may not have positive proof. Other human relations com missions in Ilinois have sub poena powers, she said, adding that she thought the City Coun cil could grant her the power. In other business last night, commissioners agreed to ar range a meeting Sept. 6 to dis cuss communication between the courts, lawyers and defend ants in criminal matters. Representatives of the state’s attorney's office, judges, pub lic defenders, the city attorney and the chairman of the county bar association will be invited. The commission decided to call the meeting after Mrs. Wild er reported that a 17-year-old mother had been jailed because she did not understand what probation meant. Mrs. Wilder claimed many in dividuals receive sentences be cause they lack funds for legal aid or don’t understand the law.
