MELBOURNE, Monday. On Saturday, September 4, butchers' shops will open on Saturday mornings again. Most retail butchers would be glad to return to Saturday trad ing, the President of the Meat and Allied Trade Federation (Mr F. Willett) said, but— The State secretary of the Meat Industry Employer’ Union (Mr G. Seelaf) said the fiveday week had proved a success and should continue. The winter period of Saturday closing began early in April at the direction of Conciliation Com missioner Kelly, who had been asked by the Butchers’ Union to restrict the Industry to a five-day working week. Mr Willett said that the five-day week made their work too rushed. They would like to abolish it. They realised the public was en titled to Saturday trading.
