FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. CATHERINE SMITH MONDAYr* IKatherine Jane Gillham was born near Sutter, 111. Dec. 26, 1857 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Walton, near Plymouth, 111. Aug. 11, 1933 at the ; age of 74 years, 7 months and 16 days. She was united in marriage to Wm. H. Smith December 12, 1880.Following their marriage they moved to a farm northeast of Bowen I where they lived happily together ! until the death of the husband in 1928. Mrs. Smith continued to live onthe farm until the death of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dee Smith, after which she made her home with! her son.About six weeks ago, on account of sickness she was taken to the home of her daughter where she was tenderly cared for but gradually grew weaker until the end came at eight o’clock Friday evening.She had expected to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Melvin of Augusta, 111. and each of them had looked forward to this visit with joyful anticipation.Mrs. Smith was a member of the Bowen Christian church and loved to attend its services whenever possible.1 ! She was a member of the Rose Hill neighborhood club, it being organized in her home. She found joy and satisfaction in speaking a word of ! cheer when it was needed. Being 1 i socially inclined she greatly enjoyed I, company and in her death thV community has lost a friend and neigh-1 bor.In addition to the children already mentioned, two daughters, Mrs. Nona *!Allshouse and an infant, Daisy Ora, have preceded her in death. She was »! greatly devoted to her three grand-| children, Mae Allshouse of Sciota, ‘ j 111. and Betty and Nancy Melvin of ’ i Augusta.She also leaves one sister, Mrs. ~ Ella Randall, Huron South Dakota and jtwo brothers, C. R. Gillham of Minneapolis, Minn, and John Gillham of Kansas.Funeral services were held in the f ; Bowen Christian church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. W. A. Taylor assisted by Rev. Thompson. Entombment was in Bowen Abbey.etes
