Bishop, of Burwell,■was shot and killed on last Tuesday at midnight in front of the Crawford home. Dr. Bishop wasi a well known physician, and Mr. Crawford a prominent farmer. They lived about one mile apart.Crawford is reported to have warned Bishop to leave the county because of alleged insults of Bishop, who was lt;U years old, to Mrs. Crawford.Mr. Crawford is now in jail here, having called up Shcritt’ Garrett shortly after the shooting and surrendering himself to the otltcer.The death of Dr. Bishop was discovered at midnight Tuesday, when his horse drew a buggy carrying the dead body to the gate at the Bishop home in Burwell. When no one lighted, members of the family went out to Investigate and found the old man dead from a shotgun wound,Crawford Makes Statement Bishop was shot in front or the Crawford home, according to Crawford’s story.“Bishop shot at me three times with a revolver and missed,” said Crawford, ‘Then 1 shot him with a shotgun, The horse bolted and ran away.”Bishop, it is believed, died on the way home. A pistol with three exploded cartridges was found in the huggy.It is stated by people who are familiar with the affair that at about 11 o’clock Bishop left his home, stating that he was going off to make a settlement of the matter.He drove past the Crawford home and after u few moments returned and called Crawford to the front. Bishop, it is believed, opened fire immediately wth a pistol, .shooting three times.
