Chelsea Parish Holds Its Annual Picnic, About 3000 Gathered at the Shore to Enjoy the Occasion. Well-Laden Tables Patronized by Generous Crowds, REVERE, Aug 16—St Rose Roman Catholic church of Chelsea held its an nual parish picnic today at Oak Island grove. The day was an ideal one and one of the largest crowds, seen at the rove this season met to enjoy it. early in the day the merrimakers began to arrive, special electrics’ from Chelsea by depositing load after load at the gate at frequent intervals, until at about 4 there were nearly 3000 present. The general committee consisted of M. J. Campbell chairman, John Egan sec, Rev T.E. Powertreas, Rev H.T. Grady, Henry Reagan, J. P. Deasy, George Phair,D.C. Toomey, John Egan, James McCarty, John Dristall, James A. O'Brien and George A. Hen derson. , At 10 am dancing in the pavilion commenced, with a Thomas weeney floor director and Wm. H. Murray, J. J. Gaghan, J. F. Walsh, Edward P. Walsh, and James Dunley aids. From 2 to 5pm C. P. Ford was floor director, and the aids John R. Murphy, Richard Voke, Peter H. Morse, Stephen J. Hagan and Thomas Hahsey. At 5 William F. Morse took charge of the floor, his aids being John Ainsworth, James A. Morse James A. O’Brien, Thomas Glennan and D. J. McCarthy. The women of the parish were very active in contributing to the success of the affair. The sporting program began with a ball game between the Glenmont and Highland Park teams, for a prize of $10, pa was won by the Glenmonts, 23 oO Later in the day there was another game between the St Rose and National nines, in which much interest was cen tered. The purse was $25. The Nationals were Daly cf, Phair 1b, Gormley lf, Smith c, Paul 3b, Flaherty ss, O’Brien 2b, Courtney rf and Barry p. The St Rose team comprised Conley 3b, Fitzgerald ss, O’Hearn cf, McCann 1b, Cummings If, Powers p, Vincent 2b, Mahoney c, Cassidy rf, Umpires, Geo, Gormley and Frank Campbell. The Na tionals won, score 18 to 6. A tug-of-war brought the following teams: Emmets of Chelsea, M. Foley anchor, Daniel Connors, Daniel Mc Sweeney, Wm. Barry and Patrick Han ley; Shamrocks of Lynn, J. Meyers an chor, M. Keefe, Edward Beache, Harry Edwards and P. Lynch. The Chelsea team won the purse, $25, by two inches. The races were won as follows: 100- yard dash, Jake Meyers; half mile, Jake Meyers; married men’s race, Daniel Hourihan; one-mile run, Jake Meyers; fat men’s race, James McCann; girls race, Mamie Flaherty; boys’ race, J. Butler; five-mile bicycle race, Victor Embree. The closing event of the program was a football game between the Emmets and Shamrocks, the former winning the prize of $25 by a score of 1 goal 2 points to 1 goal The officials of the games were ref eree, James C. Denning; starter, John Collins; clerk of course, George Phair; announcer, George A. Hederson; judges, D. C. Toomey, P. Deasy and James A. O'Brien.
