A Narrow Escape.A dispatch from Cullom, 111., an-n unces the hair-breadth escape of Prof. A. L. Tolbert, of this city. He ascended a distance of 1,000 feet when the discoveiy was made that the balloon was on fire: huge volumes of smoke were seen issuing from the top, and the excitement of the crowd of spectators was intense. It then began its descent with fearful velocity. All that was left of the huge air-ship on reaching the earth was the rings on the bottom. The dispatch announces that Tolbert was uninjured, but don’t state what miraculous stroke of fortune saved him. However, we can look for the professor home in a few days, and he will tell us all about it.
