H. C. Thaxton for Tax Collector.Mr Editor:—The object of this letter is to present the claims of ourtellow citizen Mr. If. C. Tlmxtou as candidate for the office of Tax Collect or of this county for the next term of that oliiee. It inis been the policy of our people to pass these county offices around from one cripple soldier to another until they have all been benefited bv a lucrative office. .Now while Mr. Thaxtou did not lose an arm or leg while lighting for hiscountry he was several times wound-; ed,aud these are such—one through the thigh and one through the shoul-ider—that lie is very often unable | to either hoe or plow in his farm.As to his war record, a correspondent in your paper has already stated that it was as bright as the brightest.■! Xo man ever saw or heard of Lieut, i Tliaxton being out of bis place,I but when shot down and unable to I go. He fougl't through the entire war and was with Lee in the surrender at Appomattox. Since the j close of the struggle lie has laboredhard to make a living, and his boys being all girls, he has been thrown \ behind, financially, and now asks the : voters to help him to a small office HeI has never asked for any office but! this one, and beyond doubt he has a greater claim, by double, to this office than any other man iu the county. He is an honorable, upright, Christian gentlman, and a leading member of the Baptist church, whoseiutluence is always exerted for goodwherever he goes. He is truly the man for the place, so let us all give one long strong pud ad make Lieut,Henry C. Thaxtou Tax Collector of jBuns county. Quad.
