Joplin lost the first two match es but came back to win seven of the last 10 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club Friday to capture honors in the intercity Horton Smith Girls Cup team com petition with Springfield. Friday's annual competition, which pulled Joplin within one victory in the over-all series, with one match ending in a tie, was played in a steady rain and was shortened to nine holes due to the adverse playing conditions. Leslie Peck of Springfield and Joplin's Shelly Shearer claimed medalist trophies at the awards luncheon following the play. Miss Peck had the day's low round of a 44 over Twin Hill’s front side. Three of the 12 matches were halved as Joplin's girls posted an 84% to 3% decision. Mrs. Jimmy Thomas was the sponsor-coach of the Joplin team while Mrs. Joe Dills and Miss Alice H.Doubler sponsored the Springfield team.
