TOKYO, Aug. 16 (SS)— Okinawa reeled under a second assault from Typhoon Grace last night but little damage has resulted from either of the two blows.Relatively quiet since yesterday noon when 124-mile-an-hourwinds pounded the island, Grace hit again this morning at 3 a.m. with gusts up to 65 miles an hour, TokyoWeather Central said.Winds are expected to taper off to peaks of 50 miles an hour during the day, a weather spokesman said.The “eye of Grace was 65 miles northwest of Okinawa at 7 a.m. and headed northwest in the East China Sea at six miles an hour.At last report, damage on the island was minor. RyCom headquarters reported no deaths or injuries.Quonsets Blown DownRyCom officials had not been able to make a complete survey of the damage, but reported some unoccupied quonset huts blown down. Electric lines are down, but most of the island still has power. Water facilities were also reported out, but were expected to restored shortly.American residents of the island were “buttoned downsecurely in typhoon-proof quonset huts and houses stocked with adequate supplies of food and water,B-29 Superforts of the 307th Bomb Wg. were evacuated Saturday to Clark AFB in the Philippines to avoid any possible damage.Tokyo Weather Central said Typhoon Helen, ^hich has been heading toward Japan from the southeast, had decreased in intensity to the point that it is now considered only a tropical storm.
