Prof. V. E. Chatelain His torical Research Di rector in Parks, PERU.—Prof. Verne FE. Chate lain has been appointed director of historical research in the national park service at Washington, D. C. He will begin work early in Sep tember and his duties will be to inaugurate and organize a new type of service in national parks. This new service includes supervi sion of historical activities in na tional parks, direction of plans for memorial celebrations and pro grams, care of monuments and col lecting, preserving, writing and popularizing historical material dealing with the parks. Mr. Chatelain graduated from Peru State Teachers college in 1914, served as superintendent at Dawson, Neb., and Lander, Wyo. was instructor In history and so cial sciences and debate coach in central high school at Omaha from 1920 to 1925 and for the next two years was head of the history and social science department and debate coach at Peru. For the following two years he did grad uate work at the University of Minnesota historical society after which he returned to Peru. He was admitted to the Nebraska bar in 1923 and has practiced law. He did graduate work at the Univer sity of Chicago and during the World war served with the Two Hundred Fifth regiment of the Eighty-eighth division.
